View Full Version : Vista 64 bit recommendation?

Hey fellas. I've been thinking about getting a Vista 64bit or xp 64bit since I love xp so much. I never used Vista before. And I know this is the near future where games will almost stop coming out for XPs. Stormrise for PC would be the latest example of Vista-only game.
The reason I want 64 bit is, I got a new processor, E8500 Core 2 Duo, (thanks froth for the research last time, and thanks xiohexia for 64bit recommendation and other THINGS last.... night on chat ahem anyways....) the 64bit processor, according to Xiohexia.
So anyone's recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks. Or review of the pros and cons would be great too.

DO NOT get Vista. Wait for windows 7 which is due out as soon as this Summer. You would be a complete fool to buy vista at this point...
Unless of course you can update to 7 from vista for free.. which I remember reading about...but I think it was another 50-100 bux..anyone?

At this point it might be a good idea to wait for Windows 7, or maybe not.... Windows 7 is based off of Windows Vista. I don't see why everyone is convinced that it's going to be so much better than vista. TBH I like vista, but you have to take in my hardware for consideration i guess. The only thing about vista i don't like is that the fact that it seems to get butt hurt every time I connect to an new unidentified wired network. I have to dick with shit until my internet connection will work at a friends house... =/
Windows XP is ancient... It's time to to move on.
Go for windows 7 for the hell of it. ;)
Ill be getting Windows 7 64 bit eventually so i can haz all mah ramz!! :D

I must admit I am looking forward to going 64 bit,,,
Just a bummer we can't just go straight to 128 bit.. since we have the technology to do it...
And yes I know its a nitemare to program for.. A simple human still can't wrap his mind around its quantitative complexity...
Still...
So how is 64 bit compared to 32? Those of you that have it? Do you notice a difference? If so where? I'm assuming not so much in games since none of them are optimized for it yet...
Also... Do you think the next gen of consoles could/will go 64 bit?
What do you guys think?

I just have to say one thing... its that windows vista 64 bit is bad, i have it my new comp and i take 1.3 gigs of ram sitting idle almost at the bare minumum (im shure that i can get it down to 1 gig, by turning almost all processes off) the only good thing about it is that it looks nice and thats bout it... do in my opinion i would wait until widows 7 but thats just me. hope this kind of helped if not then you can message me about any questions that you have.

Your the first person I have heard(read) say that. That's awesome you got it to work for you. I'd love to see some benchmarks.
Have you tried Ultimate 32 bit as well?

What do you guys think?32bit can only see 3323 MB of my ram :(
64 bit can see all 4 GB. Thats all I need to know.:)

There is a graphical difference. Graphic is better in 64 bit. You know like Atari gaming systems back then, they showed off because they have 32 bit, and 64 bit. Like Nintendo 64, 64 as in the bit :p. LOL so yeah, they already came up with the 64 bit consoles but those consoles I mentioned aren't using the full potential of 64 bit.
And yes you should go for 64 bit froth, since you got the same CPU I am getting! E8500 - 64 bit processor, it even says on the pretty blue box. :)
Xbox 360 has 3 64 bit processors by IBM <- Reliable than it sounds. Yet their graphic engines lack PS3. PS3 is 128 bit. The most advanced console out yet, PS3.

Wow! Is all of this true? Geez! I didn't even know that the N64 was 64 bit or that the PS3 was 128..and the N64 came out so long ago too..
Must say I'm surprised! So what the hell am I doing on this crappy 32 bit OS. OYE!
Yes Yes I promise I'll get WIN7 when its released (and afordable..) I think I'll see if I can find any videos of ingame and general computing performace comparing the two options.
Edit Research complete: Here are two aritcles on 64 vs 32, both of which harsh on 64 pretty effectively...definitely read these Sinister....

Interesting and helpful articles indeed, thanks.
I wonder if Windows 7 is going to be a failure like the first day of Vista..... I hope it doesn't have as much bugs and errors at the start! I am going to buy it when there are reviews saying, "Definitely get this! It has just little bit of bugs and problems!"
I am not getting it until the update guarantees if I see a review saying "Do not buy this folks, waste of money, full of problems and bugs!"

I am rather worried about its performance when it is released, I just hope it is not as horrible as Vista's first day. Even if XP is obsolete, I will not buy Windows 7 for a while..

Im just going to tri boot XP, Vista (or 7), And Ubiuntu (just for the hell of it)
I say between though EVERYTHING will be compatible besides Apple stuff. But I dont use Apple programs. XD
Froth

So how difficult is Ubiuntu to set up and run? It is free correct? What is its baseline memory use in comparison to XP (eg Xp uses around 200 mbs to run +-)?
I am aasuming that I personally would have little use for Ubiuntu because I use my comp primarily for browsing and gaming? Also... aren't the driver issues a big problem with Ubiuntu..particularly relating to drivers needed for gaming?

Ubuntu SUCKS. There, I said it. Bite me Bacon.
It's for coders and people who are poor. It's rediculous just to install Flash and other stuff. Most of the "alternative programs" that Linux offers, like GIMP and Kaffeine all suck. Ubuntu is like Windows in an Alternate dimension, a dimension of suck.

Hey its fun to mess around in it. XD I wouldn't make it my base OS. I would have it to have it and when Im bored throw windows around and watch them Jiggle. XD
But it is a stable OS and has some awesome visual effects even simplistic people would think is awesome.
Heres why I would pick XP, 7, and Ubuntu
XP
Because it rules!
7
So I can run all the new stuff when it comes out
Ubuntu
Because I CAN!
